While walking through Dearborn Park II this afternoon I came across a small shopping bag hanging off of someone’s fence. Attached to the bag was a note instructing dog lovers to take a copy of one of the pages inside the bag. This was printed on the page I took:
It’s a sweet story about a dog who came to someone’s home and curled up for an hour long nap. The dog returned multiple times for a nap over the course of a few weeks. Finally the homeowner attached a note to the dog’s collar explaining what the dog had been up to. The next day the dog returned with a different note, “He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3. He’s trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?”
The note I found on the fence does not mention where the story is from. It looks to be copied from a magazine or newspaper. No matter, it’s a sweet story and the way it was shared with neighbors and strangers by carefully making multiple color copies and hanging them from a fence made the story that much sweeter.
This small gesture shows that even in the city one can have the feeling of living in a small community where neighbors are friendly and share stories with strangers.
