The quality of handcrafted items is incomparable to factory made trinkets. Another reason supporting small and local business will always be an important aspect of society is that it builds community spirit:
A feeling of belonging to a community, expressed in mutual support etc.

For about the last year and a half Overflow Coffee Bar has been a champion of building community spirit in the South Loop. Showing support through such activities as collecting food for donation and hosting informative movies with discussions to teach the community about fair trade. Overflow is now taking it a step further to support not only the South Loop, but villages around the world as well.
Ten Thousand Villages is one of the world’s largest fair trade organizations. Since 1946 they have been creating opportunities for artisans in developing countries worldwide to earn income from their creations.
Overflow is now one of more than 390 retailers in the United States helping Ten Thousand Villages achieve their goals and bringing fair trade wares to the South Loop.
To start Overflow will offer the merchandise on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Overflow is also using this new venture as an opportunity to give more back to the South Loop. During the month of August they are donating 5% of all Ten Thousand Villages sales to the Greater South Loop Association’s Bash on Wabash.
