Did you see the tour of HGTV’s Urban Oasis 2011, a one-bedroom in Trump Tower? During the tour they highlighted a few of the greatest recycled housewares and home furnishing stores in Chicago such as P.O.S.H in Streeterville, Broadway Antique Market in Edgewater and the shops along Clark Street in Andersonville. I am happy to announce we now have a store like these of our own here, in the South Loop.
Urban Re-mix (1468 S. Michigan Ave.) specializes in fine home furnishings on consignment. The store feels open and very easy to navigate, like the Broadway Antique Market, but, like P.O.S.H. everywhere you turn there is a new surprise waiting to be found. South Loop neighbor and Owner Mari Ann Weiss Cater saw the need for a store like this nearby and took the initiative to make it happen.
The result is a great space filled with new and antique furnishings. Very traditional pieces as well as one-of-a-kind finds. Her current collection of chandeliers consists of a variety guaranteed to please any taste. Other finds today included a low, wide coffee table trunk, a small ornate wood desk, a small wall of jewelry, and a set of art deco cocktail glasses (my new treasure that I can’t wait to try out)!
If you are looking for something specific you can start a wish list. Simply visit the store and give Mari Ann a description and your contact information. If an item comes in that fits your description she can give you a call to come and see it.
With a constantly changing inventory Urban Re-Mix will prove to be a great asset to homes in the South Loop. If you haven’t visited yet be sure to stop by the open house on Friday, September 16th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. You just might find your latest treasure!
